HI! Love Reign O'er Me-one of Townshends' greatest tunes! I don't recall exactly what happened or when, but I wasn't working for the city, musta been the beginning of the Hanna administration, and hey, I was hanging out and enjoying a break. I started reading comic books again. I picked up an issue of Spiderman and was mesmerized anew by Marvel mania. They killed Gwen Stacy!!!! WOW! I couldn't believe it. And the whole clone saga, which was to curse Spidey for years to come, was unfolding. An incredible tale back then. And one I shall continue elsewhere.
A beautiful late spring day and Dave Owens calls and says "We are going to NY to see!!! LET"S GO!" So we did. June 10-New York City-The Who and a special four night run in the worlds' most famous arena, Madison Square Garden! The Quadrophenia '73 tour did not include NY and these shows were it. What a city. Most unbelievable place on the planet earth! My second time here and .... well the Who were playing so that was priority one. Another story to relate in another section so we will continue with the summer of '74. ----------- That was quick! Fast summer! Well it was nice but it was getting near time to find a job and get some money!
Who woulda ever thought. I remember that early September day trudging up Oneida St. to check out a job in a .....CEMETERY!!!! GEEZ! Oh well, all the college kids had gone back to school so they needed someone. Right up my alley! I walked into that old cinder block office and was introduced to.. DON DECK! 27 years ago. Who woulda ever considered the outcome of that meeting. Start work Monday! Imagine that! The outfit on the left was my work clothes and the sky overhead my roof and I was rooted in that soil. And those roots grew and developed into my foundation for the rest of my life. That Monday me and a coupla other guys, Bob ??? and Kevin Sheridan, were loaded on a truck with our cumbersome trimmers and deposited on Section 8! Can you believe it! That was where it all began.....and ended 25 years later.
Another trip to NY a few months later led to my first New York Ranger hockey game. Me and Lump joined Marty and his mobile and drove down to the Garden for my first NHL game. A Ranger victory against the Penguins and I thought Stemmer should have gotten the star of the game. Winter was in the air and I was done with the cem. It was a part-time job so I hoofed it back up to the ski area to work for the winter and a pretty interesting year came to a close.
The future's uncertain and the end is nowhere near. Keep on Movin' or home body>
